3 Exercises Designed For The Average Office Worker
If you’re not aware, sitting at a
desk all day isn’t the best for your body. Sitting for such a long period,
especially if you like to slouch, can cause a great deal of discomfort and
stress. This can lead to a decrease in morale, and can be a distraction that
reduces productivity throughout a regular day.
If you feel like you’re having
issues with sitting all day, try the following exercises at home. These will
help you loosen up those cramped up muscles.
1.
Rocking
Get on all
fours and carefully rock back and forth. When you rock back, your hips should
move downward towards your feet, which extends your back for a stretch across
the lower portion of your spine, and relaxing the stretch when you return to a
forward position. You can get a bonus in your neck and upper back by nodding
your head as you rock, bringing your chin to and from your chest.
2.
Rolling
Start off by
laying on your stomach with your arms above your head. Alternate between
lifting each arm and use their added weight to roll over a couple times on each
side. Keep in mind that you’re using your arm’s weight to roll, not trying to
push off the ground to get yourself to roll.
3.
Crawling
Starting on
all fours again, crawl forwards and backwards, with a large focus on moving
your hips as much as possible. When you’re moving backwards, turn your neck
from side to side to get a nice stretch going.
Unless your workplace has a dedicated exercise area, these
exercises are best done at home. These activities would be distracting to other
workers, so try to be respectful and do it away from your desk. It’s best to do
these at home given that they are intended to help remain focused and
comfortable, it’s something to take away from work.
A stressed out, uncomfortable employee is an unproductive one
as well. However, the opposite is just as true. Encouraging workers to take
care of themselves will help them feel their best, but also help them perform
at their best.
